My 1st Triathalon...

...and maybe my last!!! Yesterday I competed in the Spudman Triathalon in Burley, Idaho. Zak's in Alaska, so he wasn't able to do it, but his dad and sister did it with me. We started off with a mile swim in the Snake River, which I'm not joking, nearly drowned all three of us. It was utter chaos when the swim started, with people everywhere. I got kicked in the mouth, wacked in the face, and took several blows to the ribs by other swimmers arms and legs. It felt like I was being trampled in the water. Probably hands down, the scariest experience of my life. I swallowed so much yummy river water and spend a lot of time on my back trying to catch my breath. But thankfully I survived the swim (to which Dallin later told me, with tears in his eyes, that if I was really drowning, he would have jumped in the water, even without a life jacket on, to save me). I then had to hurry and change into my biking gear for a 26 mile ride. I really enjoyed this part (maybe I was just so glad to be out of the water) and felt great during the ride. After the bike, I changed shoes again and set off on a 6 mile run. It was only about 10am, but it was already 95 degrees. The run was so hot, and semi miserable, but I knew that once I was done running, it was over! I'm glad overall that I did it (and glad it's over). Dallin came up with Zak's mom to watch us and take pictures. I was so fun to have him there cheering us on!

Setting up our bikes and gear the night before the race.

Rows and rows of bikes

Our sweet wetsuits - right before the swim started.

The terrifying swim! (this doesn't do it justice)

We had to carry our bikes across a thorny, rocky patch before getting on.

THE FINISH LINE!!!!

Zak's sister, his Dad, and me...so happy to have finished!

Wiped Out!!!

Tiffany, I can't believe you did that! The swim sounds absolutely hideous. I would have died! You are are amazing to not go into a complete fetal position and give up! Congratulations.
